Some of us have a history of making unkind and dismissive comments about French patriotism and military capacity. But the cold hard fact is that we've never had to learn the tragic lessons that the French people did during the 1930s and 1940s.
France is sadly at risk again today, but she stands stronger than the United States because some of her people remember that passionate people of the right and of the left occasionally have to put aside their differences to defend their country, civil society, and the rule of law.
